In this book, John Owen effectively dismisses various excuses for not engaging in self-scrutiny and yet avoids the current trend of self-absorption. In so doing, he provides principles to help believers live lives of holiness before God. Get it here.

Plantinga uses clear language and draws upon myriad books, films and other cultural resources to drive home our need to simultanously hate sin and love the grace of Christ. Available at the RBC bookstore or here.

We the Church must not act as though sin were only something out “in the world” and so tolerate jealousy, anger, pride and ungodliness within our own hearts. Bridges writes as one in the trenches and points his readers again and again to the profound mercy of the grace of Jesus. Available in the RBC bookstore or get it here.

Thanks much to those who joined us throughout the series How to Be Rich with Andy Stanley. I hope you were both blessed and challenged by the content.

Again, my personal encouragement to you is this: if God has lead you to change how or where you invest your time and money, make a plan and get accountable. Remember – guilt and greed are short-term motivators. It’s easy to watch a series like this and leave with good intentions, but good intentions with no plan and no accountability is not going to get you very far.

Think of it this way – if your boss at work gave you a specific assignment to do, would you approach it without a plan? Just get to it …however, whenever? Probably not. How much more, then, when our Father prompts us to action, should we deliberately engage with Him in what He has asked us to do?

If you are interested in purchasing your own copy of How to Be Rich, you can do so at the North Point Resources Site. The DVD and mp3 audio is available there. For anyone interested in using this to lead a small group study, the DVD actually has a built-in small group curriculum.

T4G is a conference held bi-annually in Louisville, KY. From the T4G site:

Together for the Gospel (T4G) began as a friendship between four pastors. These friends differed on a number of theological issues, like baptism and the charismatic gifts. But they were committed to standing together for the main thing—the gospel of Jesus Christ.

T4G is convinced that the gospel of Jesus Christ has been misrepresented, misunderstood, and marginalized in many churches and among those who proclaim the name of Christ. The goal of these friendships, conferences, and networks is therefore to reaffirm this central doctrine of the Christian faith and to encourage local churches to do the same.

This year’s conference finished up last week. Wish I could have attended, but the audio is already posted online. You should definitely check it out.

Back in February, Graham Baggett and I had the privilege of attending the Text+Context Conference, hosted by Mark Driscoll and Mars Hill Church in Seattle. It was easily one of the best conferences I have ever been to. For any of you out there who are particularly considering pastoral ministry or church planting – or even if you are leading a Bible study or small group – I would highly recommend taking some time and going through the A/V from this conference.

If you don’t have time to wade through them all, I particularly recommend Driscoll’s Putting Pastors in Their Place, Mahaney’s Pastoral Character & Loving People, Piper’s Why I Trust the Scriptures, and Chandler’s Preaching the Gospel from the Center of the Evangelical World.

Check out the audio/video here.

Again, that teaching was literally the first chapter of a book by the same name by D.A. Carson. It is an excellent read (and quite short for a D.A. Carson book.) I would encourage you all to get a copy of the book and use it as a tool for a deep, Scriptural study on the widely underestimated doctrine of the love of God.

Comment: How would you define “love”? Which of the 5 ways of talking about the love of God, as discussed in the teaching, do you particularly identify with? Which is difficult for you to understand or appreciate?

UPDATE: The audio from this teaching is now online. Listen | Download
